
Paphos is the largest of the six districs of Cyprus and is situated in the western part of the island. Its main town and capital is Paphos. The entire district is controlled by the internationally recognized government of Cyprus. There are four municipalities in Paphos District; Paphos, Yeroskipou, Peyia and Polis Chrysochous.The area of the district is 1,393 km.², which constitutes the 15.1% of the total area of the island, and the population in 2001 was 66,364. Its coastal area is characterized by beuatiful gulfs and coves, capes and points, beaches and tiny isles. The district can be divided into three morphological regions: the coastal plain, lying mainly below 200 metres, the hilly area extending from plain up to the igneous rocks of Paphos forest and the mountainous region, lying mainly on the igneous rocks of the Paphos forest. North-west of the District is the Akamas peninsula.

Limassol is the second-largest city of Cyprus with a population of 172,500 (2004 census), and the biggest municipality of the island. The city is located on Akrotiri Bay on the island’s southern coast and is the capital of Limassol District. The city has become one of island’s most important locations for tourism and trade and is renowned for its long cultural tradition. A wide spectrum of activities and a great number of museums and archaelogical sites are available to the interested visitor. Limassol was built between two ancient cities, Amathus and Kourion, so during Byzantine rule it was known as Neapolis (new town). Limassol’s tourist strip now runs east along the coast as far as Amathus. To the west of the city is the Akrotiri Sovereign Military Base of the United Kingdom. Limassol attracts a wide range of tourists mostly during the summer season to be accommodated in its numerous luxurious hotels and apartments.

Larnaca - The advantages of Larnaca as a tourist resort are numerous. The town is large enough to give everything one may need but still is not overcrowded especially at its beautiful beaches which extend for 25 kilometers. The archaeological sites and its six museums are in the centre of the city within walking distance. Summer sports, sea activities and cruises are readily available. The shops are well stocked, medical care is excellent and its cinemas are screening films simultaneously with the cinemas of Europe and the USA. The variety of restaurants, tavernas, cafeterias and bars cater for all tastes. Cyprus ”meze” is the food specialty of the town. Night life is interesting and security in the streets unsurpassed. Cultural life is rich and many events are organized by the town’s Municipality almost daily.
